Finding faith in the digital age : Q & A With Samuel Hairston

Can you tell us who you are and what inspired your journey to start TikTok and be a Christian influencer?

My name is Samuel H. What inspired me was the lack of presence for the children of God. The world highlights negativity and promotes distractions, and I didn’t see enough promotion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Seeing the need and doing my part to supply that is what motivated me.

What is your testimony, and how did you come to know Christ personally?

I’ve always been in the church. My testimony isn’t the usual “I was lost and then found” story. I’ve been in covenant with God since I was born. My testimony is how He is a keeper and has been keeping me since the day I knew my name.

Was there a turning point in your life where you fully surrendered to Jesus?

Yes. I tried pursuing things my way—different careers, sales, and other opportunities—without asking God first. I thought I could handle it myself. One night, I had a dream where God told me point-blank: “If you’re not going to speak to Me, you’re not going to speak for anybody.” That humbling experience made me reorder my priorities and place God first in everything.

What keeps your fire for Christ burning despite social media distractions?

It’s the story—God using people like me to show that someone is fully committed to Him. The thought that God could use me to demonstrate unwavering faith motivates me. I want to always be a vessel that honors Him and is ready for His use.

What does your personal time with God look like daily?

I start the morning with prayer and devotionals. Before working out, I spend intimate time studying the Word. I try to dedicate at least two and a half hours daily to God—time that reflects the importance of what’s been given to me.

How do you stay rooted in your identity in Christ when in the public eye?

My identity in Christ is the only permanent identity. Everything else is temporary. Being rooted in Him keeps me grounded, reminding me that instant gratification or popularity is fleeting.

Have you ever felt spiritually dry or distant from God, and how did you overcome it?

Yes, that happens when I let the world or personal goals distract me. The fix is simple: get back into the Word and reconnect with God intentionally. It’s not about feelings—it’s about discipline.

How do you balance being relatable and trendy on TikTok while staying true to biblical truth?

I make sure my relatability doesn’t contradict the Word. Being relatable is about shared experiences, not fitting in with worldly trends. When you stay true, your message remains clear.

What has been one of the most powerful responses from someone impacted by your content?

Many people tell me they realized they’re not alone in their struggles. Even when my content is funny, relatable, or lighthearted, it reminds people of Christ and prompts them to take action in their spiritual lives.

How do you discern what messages or videos to share?

I follow the Spirit’s guidance. If something feels right and aligns with God’s direction, I post it. If it distracts from His message, I don’t. I rely on discernment to know what will truly impact viewers.

What spiritual challenges do you face as a Christian content creator?

Mainly distractions from life and personal struggles. While I haven’t faced direct spiritual attacks, challenges in my personal life can affect my ability to create content. It’s about staying aligned with God despite external pressures.

How do you protect your heart, mind, and purpose from social media pressures?

I post and move on. I don’t obsess over likes or algorithms. People are fickle, and trends are temporary. My focus is being impactful and true, regardless of popularity metrics.

Have you ever had to take a break from social media to reconnect with God?

Yes. Sometimes you need to step away to listen to God. You can’t speak to Him if you’re not listening first.

Do you have a church community or mentor that keeps you grounded?

Yes. I have strong leadership within my fellowship and connections with successful people in business and other areas who hold me accountable. They help me stay humble and centered.

How important is accountability in your walk with God and content creation?

Accountability is crucial. Principles and leadership around me serve as a “backup battery” for when I might drift or make mistakes. It keeps me grounded and aligned with God’s will.

What advice would you give someone afraid of rejection for being bold in their faith?

Ask yourself why you feel afraid. Understanding your “why” helps you expose your heart. Ultimately, God’s acceptance matters most. If He accepts you, no one else’s judgment can deter you.

What do you say to young people struggling to find God in a culture that often rejects Him?

Find people who support and accept your faith. Pursue the relationships and environments that nurture your connection with God. What you truly need, you’ll make the effort to find.

What Bible verse or passage has been your anchor in this season?

Proverbs 30:29–31. It reminds me that, like a lion, we are strong, courageous, and don’t turn away from God’s calling.

What is your ultimate goal in using your platform for the kingdom?

To draw people, especially youth, to Christ. To show a new way of fun that doesn’t harm but strengthens salvation and spiritual growth.

If people could walk away from your page with one message about Jesus, what would it be?

He sees, He knows, and despite everything, He loves me anyway. Just get back up.

What worship song has been on repeat lately?

“I Love the Lord” by Todd Delaney. I like songs that you can meditate on, repeat, and internalize the message.

What is your favorite way to connect with God outside of prayer and reading the Word?

Music is a big way for me to connect, but ultimately, all of life is an opportunity to acknowledge Him.

Finish this sentence: Jesus is my…

Jesus is my friend, my Lord, and my help.
