From Heartbreak to Healing: How Naylene Bartell Found Her Voice in Christ

When you listen to Naylene Bartell sing, you hear more than melody — you hear testimony. Her journey from heartbreak to healing, from secular music to gospel, is a reflection of what happens when you surrender your gift to God and let Him rewrite your story.

A Musical Journey Born from Emotion

Music has always been a part of Naylene’s life. I’ve been doing music since I was about five or six,” she shared. “I used to do little musicals, and in high school, I wrote my first song — that’s when my journey of sharing my stories through music began.”

For Naylene, songwriting has always been deeply personal. If I don’t feel it, I can’t write it,” she said. Every song I’ve ever written comes from my experiences — my heartbreaks, my lessons, and everything I’ve been through.”

Her first song, “Missin’ You,” may have been written from a high school perspective, but it marked the start of a creative outlet that would later become a vessel for healing and ministry.

A Shift from Pain to Purpose

Naylene’s transition into Christian music didn’t happen overnight — it began with conviction. “A couple of months ago, I realized that all this energy I was putting into music about heartbreak could be used to share my journey through Christ,” she said.

As her walk with God deepened, her desires changed. “It wasn’t one specific moment — it was just realizing that I wanted to take my walk with Christ more seriously. There were certain things I didn’t want to do anymore. That’s when my purpose began to shift.”

For Naylene, conviction wasn’t punishment — it was redirection. It was God leading her from the temporary comfort of worldly music to the eternal fulfillment of worship.

Writing with Purpose

Today, Naylene writes songs inspired by her growing relationship with God. “I can’t write it unless I feel it,” she said. “Now that my relationship with Christ is getting stronger, I can write about what He’s brought me through. I have songs about trusting God, about how He’ll never leave us, and about those quiet moments when it feels like He’s silent — but He’s still working.”

She’s learned that gospel music doesn’t have to be traditional — it can carry every rhythm and genre imaginable. “Kingdom music isn’t boring,” she laughed. “It’s a whole vibe — Afrobeat, neo-soul, trap, you name it. The only difference is who we give glory to.”

The Message Behind the Music

Through her songs, Naylene hopes to remind listeners they are not alone. “This walk with Christ isn’t easy. Sometimes it gets lonely because not everyone will understand your journey,” she said. “But just like God got me, He’s got you too. Whatever season you’re in, trust Him through it all — He won’t leave or forsake you.”

One of her most personal songs, “Lord, I Need Thee,” reflects that dependence. It’s about realizing that I’ve tried things on my own, and they didn’t work. Without God, there’s no me. If it’s not in His will, I don’t want it.”

Grounded by Faith

Navigating the music world while standing firm in faith can be challenging, especially surrounded by secular influences. But Naylene stays grounded through prayer and authenticity. Even when I’m at open mic events or around other artists, I remind myself to stay true to who I am and what I represent. I can’t be intimidated or shrink my light.”

Encouragement for Other Artists

When asked what she would say to others who feel called to use their gifts for God but are afraid to take that leap, Naylene’s answer came from the heart:

If God gave you a gift, use it. Don’t let fear or overthinking make you miss out on what God has for you. You never know how your obedience can change someone’s life.”
